Hello friends. My name is The_Dream_Shake_94 and I'm a 3rd year med student in a state that doesn't respect women's rights. I'm pretty into health care policy, so I got approached about being on a panel of med students, law students, dental students, pharmacy students to discuss the intersection of health care and the law.
I was given some starter questions to prepare. I have my answers down for them, but I know my experience might not be indicative of everyone in medical school so I was wondering if yall could give some input if you're particularly opinionated about any of the questions. That way I can bring a more well rounded set of idea when I speak. Thanks for the help!

  1. Can you generally explain what laws you’ve been taught you need to abide by in your profession?
  2. What are some legal hurdles in your profession? How do you foresee a lawyer being able to assist you in your profession?
  3. What areas of liability worry you the most?
  4. (Healthcare workers are always complaining about admin and paperwork) How do you foresee this changing or are there any updates that the policy or legal profession could assist in?
  5. What are some of the most pressing issues you see that you think should change in our state? What about federally?
  6. What are some questions or areas of interest within the law or what we do that you would like to know about?

2021.10.24 11:55 Dwight-D TDD and git commit workflows

I've recently made a point of improving my git commit discipline instead of just squashing my mangled wip: foo style commit history before merge and I have some questions about best-practices when it comes to my workflow. This is what I typically do for a new feature (sorry in advance for wall of text):
I do pretty lax TDD, generally I might start off with sketching out the feature on a whiteboard at a high level as a sequence diagram or something. Then I write the code for the top level interface I/O, defining the high level API of my feature, make an integration/E2E test calling that API, and then assert on some outcome, like finding some new data in the database or whatever. This test will of course fail until the happy path implementation is done.
Then I start breaking the feature down into smaller components, maybe I will outline the high level flow at the application layer by defining new subcomponents & routines and calling them from the high level API to sketch out the equivalent of my sequence diagram in the top level API, even though none of these components are finished yet. Then I litter the new underlying code with todo:s, throwing NotImplException or whatever as placeholders so my code compiles until I'm done with the implementation. Then I start adding more granular tests for some of those subroutines, maybe add in some more test cases covering error handling etc in the high level API test I started off with etc. In this way I flesh out the implementation until it's complete and I can run all the tests on my high level API without errors, and maybe do another pass of error handling and test coverage to top it off.
However, I'm not sure how to handle checking in my commits as I go about doing this. I like to commit at various points here e.g. when I add new interfaces, when I finish the implementation of some subroutine or component etc, just to have my work backed up and documented.
If I check these commits in in roughly the same order as I write the code I will of course have a series of commits that compile, but where the tests fail, there may be dangling code, runtime exceptions, empty function definitions etc. These are essentially WIP style commits but that still have some structure and context provided in commit messages etc. Is this okay or considered bad practice?
I can see an alternative approach where I could try to structure my workflow with even more discipline. I could skip checking in that first high level API & test and other interface definitions with unfinished implementations, and restrict myself to adding finished chunks of tested and working but not yet called code that makes up the subroutines comprising my larger flow.
By doing this I will avoid checking in unfinished code paths and broken test suites. However, this is basically the reverse of my actual work process, so I feel like it doesn't capture the spirit of how and why the code was written which might make it harder to understand the thought process behind the changes. It would also require me to restructure my git history quite a bit and get into some pretty complicated git workflows in order to "skip" all the work that lead up to me discovering the finished chunk I'm about to check in, which of course introduces a lot of overhead that provides questionable value.
Alternatively, I could just structure my work in a different way. Instead of starting from the high level implementation I could try to think ahead to the low level components I will need and start with them, writing small and atomic functioning & tested code blocks and checking them in as I go. But doing this I see a risk of wasted work as I make incorrect assumptions and may end up having to rework them later anyway, or risk doing stuff I end up not needing.
I would be grateful if you could share your workflows that involve some level of testing and commit discipline, or your thoughts on mine.

2021.10.24 11:55 Illidariislove Do quests do anything else besides reputation? I treated the game like an RPG at first and just kept chasing after quest markers and now its winter and I barely have a hut to live in. So I am starting again, but how much of these quests do I need to focus on?

Do they unlock things? do I need to finish certain ones to prevent or ensure certain things from happening? I honestly don't know what the ratio of building my land vs doing quests should be.

2021.10.24 11:55 FlaminToiletWater The Skeleton and The Witch

Monsters and Humans have wandered the earth for years, sometimes living in harmony otherwise at war against each other. Monsters were well known for their ability of magic usage, to create flames from nothing, summon creatures using a few words and even cover the area in darkness with a few waves of the hand.
Humans have always envied this ability and began enslaving and capturing monsters, harvesting and testing on them until they gained the part they needed. Mana. A thing that ran through the veins of all monsters, dripped out and into a flask, before hardening and becoming a crystal within a week.
Humans began farming this, keeping liquid mana in large vaults until it hardened and was able to be mined and sold in the market. Mana became a useful thing in general life, used to power trains and cars, machines and even healed the most fatal wounds.
Though, all this angered the Monster King and that started the Great Mana War, which has been going on till this day. Many have died to the war, many still are, towns and families are being broken apart and many go to a soothsayer, who recites a poem.
"Humans and Monsters may be in toil and both families blood may be on the soil, but the war can be stopped by two, if they both agree too."
From there, many have attemted to make friends with the other species and stop the war, though all has failed.
Soon, the world will be in toil.
Hey there! My names Flamin' and I'm interested in doing a fantasy medieval themed roleplay.
I'm only lookin for 18+ partners, since there will be gore and NSFW involved. You would be playing a human, who if you wish could be half.
It would be appreciated if the replies were around 1-2 paragraphs, good punctuation. I understand if your busy and cannot reply often, but at least say so instead off not saying anything.
If you have any questions feel free to DM. I await your messages. C:

2021.10.24 11:55 neighbor_ryan "Cars Don't Fit JC" cycling PoV

Hi y'all, wanted to share some videos I've been working on about things that have surprised me (good and bad) about (e)biking around JC:

Some themes I want to explore are: 1. Cars aren't working well for JC drivers, today. 2. The more people drive, the worse it gets. 3. There is no "more space" that can be given to cars to make them work better. 4. Even if there were, more space for cars would just make the problem worse (that's largely how we've ended up where we are). 5. A lot of car trips in JC could be replaced by bike, but without safe+separated infrastructure, it will remain impossible for most people.
I'm interested in feedback about what y'all think works or doesn't in the videos, and happy to (civilly) discuss general biking tips/tricks/etiquette as well… thanks!
